New Felt, Battens & Tiles at Eaves | Wickford
Our team recently carried out roof repairs for a client in Wickford, renewing the felt, battens, and tiles along the eaves to restore full weather protection and improve the roof’s ventilation. The existing materials had reached the end of their lifespan, leading to leaks and deterioration at the lower edge of the roof.
Work Carried Out
Removal of Old Materials
The lower section of the roof was carefully stripped back, removing the aged and torn felt, weakened battens, and damaged tiles around the eaves.
New Breathable Felt Installed
A modern, breathable roofing felt was laid to provide long-term weatherproofing and allow proper ventilation of the roof space.
Pressure-Treated Battens Fitted
New pressure-treated timber battens were installed to form a solid, durable fixing base for the new roof tiles and ensure lasting structural support.
Eaves Protection Trays Added
We fitted new eaves protection trays to guide rainwater efficiently into the guttering, preventing moisture from entering beneath the roof covering.
Bird Guards Installed
Bird combs were securely fitted along the eaves to stop birds from nesting beneath the tiles and to maintain airflow within the roof void.
New Tiles Laid & Aligned
Fresh roof tiles were carefully fitted along the eaves to match the existing roof, completing the project with a clean and professional finish.
The Transformation
This Wickford roof repair project demonstrates how renewing the felt, battens, and tiles at eaves level can dramatically improve the integrity and longevity of an older roof. With new materials and protection systems in place, the property is now fully watertight, well-ventilated, and ready to withstand the elements for many years to come.
